Covestro opened a new reactor line for polyester resins at its Meppen site in Germany’s Emsland region on 3 November 2026. According to the company, the multi-year project adds capacity in the double-digit kiloton range in response to rising European demand for high-performance polyester resins.
A broad product range from one reactor
The new line builds on the site’s existing GMP-compliant infrastructure for food-contact applications. Covestro says the reactor can produce high-molecular-weight and standard polyester grades as well as alkyd and acrylic resins, and can also make intermediates for polyurethane dispersions. The products serve can and coil coatings, industrial coatings and adhesives. Brands named in the announcement include Uralac, Uradil, Hybrane and NeoRez.
Investment in filling and energy efficiency
The investment goes beyond the reactor line. The site has also added a new truck filling system, a fully automated drum filling line and a heat recovery installation that improves energy efficiency. Covestro puts the total investment in the multi-million-euro range, and some additional positions in production, filling and shipping are being filled.
Dr. Andrea Maier-Richter, Head of Covestro’s Coatings & Adhesives business entity, stressed that customers rely on reliable supply and consistent quality. Site Manager Dr. André Rittermeier said the company is not just adding capacity but reinforcing the foundation its customers rely on.
Operating since 1956
The Meppen site has operated since 1956, has been part of Covestro since 2021 and employs more than 100 people.
